Luxury wellness retreat Sensei Porcupine Creek has opened in Rancho Mirage, California as the brand’s first standalone retreat. The boutique experience promotes a healthy lifestyle through a range of sport and fitness programming, as well as a holistic design from locally based architecture firm Milander that reinforces the natural splendor of the mountainous desert setting.
“We needed to create a design space that felt serene and tranquil—an environment free from distractions and clutter,” says Sensei vice president of brand and marketing Meaghan Carlson. “The design utilizes a consistent theme of light and neutral color palettes, acres of natural greenery woven throughout, and a lot of light in every space to bring the outdoors in. The essence of Porcupine Creek is all about connections between buildings and the outdoor environment to facilitate spaces and moments for wellness.”
A natural material palette channels the surrounding landscapes, complemented by sightlines to the 230-acre desert oasis. Stone, wood, and textiles further embody the setting, while a range of artwork by California artists convey a thoughtful sense of place. Patios, trellises, and covered porches promote a seamless indoor-outdoor living as well.
The elegant Estate House anchors the campus with grandiosity, welcoming visitors with high ceilings and windows that pour natural light into the interior. Beyond the Estate House, a lagoon-style pool, garden spa treatment rooms, fitness pavilion, and yoga pavilion invite guests to enjoy the outdoors with expansive views of the Santa Rosa Mountains.
Sensei Porcupine Creek also boasts the Sensei by Nobu restaurant, a collaboration with iconic Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa.
A total of 22 sophisticated accommodations—including Estate House rooms, freestanding luxury villas, and spacious Casitas equipped with private outdoor heated spas—are also housed across the property.
