Straits Row Apartments
The details: Situated in Chicago’s historic Printers Row neighborhood, Straits Row Apartments features art curated by Indiewalls in collaboration with Q Investment Partners that “pays homage to the history of printmaking while tapping into the techniques of contemporary printed artwork,” says Indiewalls project lead Rachel Wiegmann. The collection is anchored by a courtyard mural, which extends the visual narrative outdoors. In addition to Troxel’s Printing Press, a sculptural reimagining of the 15th-century tool that transformed written communication and production, another piece stands out. Composed of two warm-toned pieces from the Popol Vuh series, the installation (shown) is created by Caralarga, a textile design and production collective based in Mexico. The result is a collection honoring the craft of printmaking while celebrating the building’s storied past.
