What we’re looking forward to: CH Projects has helped mold San Diego’s hospitality scene with its restaurants and bars, and most recently, its hotels. First came the much-hyped Lafayette, and now Coronado’s La Avenida Inn has given way to the maximalist Baby Grand, where the fantastical parking lot-turned-jungle brims with foliage and the Champagne and oyster bar’s mosaic floor depicts underwater creatures. In the 31 guestrooms, mirrored minibars and enormous clamshell headboards add to the fun.
