Hong Kong-based Panorama Design Group has completed the warm and whimsical new family bookstore Kidswinshare Plus in Chengdu, China. Spread across more than 30,600 square feet, the concept, which is designed around the theme “Learning in Rainbow,” comprises four key functions: retail, learning, dining, and amusement.

Abundant curves disrupt the rigidity of the preexisting layout to convey the abstract sensibilities of a storybook, while further referencing the form and colors of a rainbow.
The first retail zone is defined by a palette of vibrant pink and yellow tones, with spray-painted metal sheet suspended from the open ceiling to provide additional color spectrums against full-height wood walls and bookcases. Reading niches are carved out to promote reading among parents and children, while round column features are outfitted to display books and accommodate seating. Calm blue hues characterize the multifunctional classrooms in the second zone, which is flooded with natural light to evoke warmth.

The family restaurant adopts a green palette in homage to health and nature. A platform dining area is oriented around the elliptical theater, while a bench seating area is installed opposite the open kitchen. A VIP area is even available, detailed with a laser-cut white metal sheet that depicts the shapes of a garden house complete with a lighting design reminiscent of sunlight filtering through the overstory of the forest. Finally, in the play area, a brown palette balances out energetic elements like a the multifaceted, mirrored ceiling made of stainless steel.
