Two new Hampton Inn & Suites properties have made a solid commitment to being green. The 221-room Hampton Inn & Suites Miami Brickell-Downtown is on track to become the city’s first LEED-certified hotel. Sustainable initiatives include:

  • A 35,000-gallon cistern to harvest rainwater to be used in public restrooms, for irrigation, and for washing exterior decking and walkways
  • An in-room energy management system that will power down the air conditioning system when guests are not in their rooms
  • An ozone laundry system designed to reduce the consumption of water, energy and cleaning chemicals.
  • CFLs and LED lighting, which will lower energy consumption by 18 percent
  • Low-flow water fixtures, dual-flush toilets, and motion-activated faucets to reduce water usage by more than 40 percent, equating to an estimated 500,000 gallons of savings annually
  • Occupancy sensors to control lights in public places and work areas
  • Biodegradable recycled plastic room key cards

Meanwhile, the Hampton Inn & Suites Tupelo/Barnes Crossing in Mississippi has partnered with EcoGreenHotel to implement a host of solutions:

  • LED lighting in areas where lights are used 24 hours a day
  • Lighting occupancy sensor controls in all back-of-house areas
  • LED lights for all parking lot lighting fixtures
  • The NuTek Ozone System for laundry
  • High-efficiency tankless water heaters
  • Exhaust air and heat recovery systems to reduce energy in all guestrooms
  • High-efficiency air conditioning units and energy management systems in all guestrooms
  • Dual flush commodes, faucet fixtures, showerheads and aerators
  • Highly reflective roofing materials in order to reduce heat absorption
