The Italian hospitality brand’s third property will pair nature-driven design with a new culinary partnership

The ROMEO Collection will add a third address to its growing portfolio with ROMEO Massa Lubrense, a cliffside retreat in Campania, Italy, set to debut in May 2027.

The property joins the brand’s urban hotel in Naples and historic property in Rome, bringing its approach to hospitality to one of Italy’s most storied coastlines. For more than 2,000 years, the region has drawn aristocrats, affluent travelers, and artists seeking a haven for contemplation.

Designing with restraint at ROMEO Massa Lubrense

Designed by architect Kengo Kuma in collaboration with ROMEO Design, the hotel is built on a private natural fjord in Punta San Lorenzo. ROMEO Massa Lubrense transforms the site of the historic 1963 Hotel Delfino through a design informed by the Japanese concept of Ma, in which emptiness functions as a quiet presence rather than an absence. This philosophy allows the architecture to recede into its surroundings, placing greater emphasis on the relationship between guests and the natural beauty of the fjord.

That restraint carries through the material palette, which favors warm, organic tones and natural finishes, including local tuff, travertine, American walnut, and matte ceramics. Combined with transparency and the soft curves characteristic of Kuma’s work, these elements create a pared-back aesthetic that lets the eye rest and the landscape take center stage.

The same connection to nature informs the hotel’s 63 rooms and suites, where the boundaries between interior and exterior are designed to dissolve in favor of indoor-outdoor living. The relationship extends to the outdoor spaces, where a zenithal view across the gulf makes the infinity pool appear to merge with the sea beyond. Throughout, the minimalist design keeps the focus on the sea, light, and natural landscape that have defined this cliffside for centuries.

Quattro Passi anchors the culinary program

The Romeo Group has also announced a strategic partnership with the Mellino brothers to expand Quattro Passi, the three-Michelin-starred restaurant founded in Massa Lubrense. The brand is now part of the Romeo Group.

Fabrizio and Raffaele Mellino will take a direct role in shaping the brand’s next phase, beginning with ROMEO Massa Lubrense, where Quattro Passi will serve as the hotel’s fine dining restaurant. The brothers will also contribute to the development of the property’s broader F&B offering.

Quattro Passi brings more than 40 years of culinary history to the project. Antonio Mellino founded the restaurant in 1983, and it has since been developed by his sons.
