Boutique Design has announced this year’s Designer of the Year, an honor celebrated in conjunction with the 43rd Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design.

Amesbury, Massachusetts-based Elder & Ash is a full-service creative design studio, helmed by hoteliers Rob Blood and Megan Kennedy (the husband-and-wife team is also behind Lark Hotels). As designers of the properties they own and operate—which include Lark Hotels, Bluebird by Lark, Awol, and Lark Independent brands—the duo imbues their hotels with a layered aesthetic that is rich with found objects and alive with pattern, creating a unique and compelling design narrative.
As a Gold Key finalist in three categories: Emerging Hotel Brand (for the recently launched Blind Tiger), Midscale Lobby, and Midscale Hotel, Elder & Ash was recognized by the 2023 judging panel for making its distinctive mark on the industry.
