Building on Texas’ current motel renaissance, Mod Motels is a new venture converting cherished roadside motels into modern destinations. The Dallas-based company is led by siblings Lisa Lennox, Cathy Bonner, and Kirk Bonner.
Mod Motels’ inaugural project, the 33-room Interstate Inn, is set to make its debut in Stephenville, Texas this summer. The luxury boutique property—a transformation of the historic Caravan Inn—will intertwine the essence of midcentury modern design with Southern history, charm, and hospitality.
Neal Stewart Designs is spearheading the design of the Interstate Inn, while Shelton Architecture is handling the architecture. Interiors will feature a palette of gold, avocado green, and tangerine complemented by original furniture pieces, including a pink petal chair.
Each guestroom will be adorned with modern interpretations of vintage wallcoverings, along with original artwork by Kevin Chupik.
Mod Motels will also be joining forces with James Beard Award-winning chef Stephan Pyles to introduce the Seeker, a restaurant situated within the Interstate Inn. Designed by the Guest Group, the Seeker will embody a nostalgic-yet-stylish atmosphere with vintage-meets-modern décor that pays homage to the rich history of the West.
