Studio Tim Fu, a London-based firm, is redefining architecture through artificial intelligence (AI)-driven design with its latest project at Lake Bled, Slovenia.
Set along the storied shores of the glacial lake, Lake Bled Estate consists of seven exclusive-use villas crafted from the fusion of human creativity and AI.
“We’re at a crossroads, a moment of profound change,” says Tim Fu, who founded his namesake studio after his tenure at Zaha Hadid Architects. “AI is igniting a revolution in design. By tapping into the creative potential of machine intelligence, we can bring this groundbreaking development to life with unmatched speed and precision.”
Honoring tradition through technology
Spanning nearly 5.5 acres, the property includes six new ultra-luxury villas alongside Vila Epos, a protected cultural monument designed by Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik in 1909.
During the conceptual phase, AI tools were used to analyze the region’s vernacular. This process uncovered elements such as the timber rizalit—vertical partial enclosures extending from façades—which the studio reimagined as a central vertical atrium opening to garden views and daylight.
“This is the first time AI has been this extensively embedded in the architectural process, from prototyping design to optimizing for heritage and environment,” says Rada Daleva, project lead for Studio Tim Fu.
A design that fosters connection
Lake Bled Estate fosters both privacy and social connection through a masterplan that carefully positions the villas while centering the development around a communal park. The landscape concept features curated greenery and pathways designed to encourage interaction.
The collection of two-, three-, and four-bedroom villas offers adaptable living spaces that integrate indoor and outdoor environments. While the exteriors pay homage to local architectural traditions, the interiors maximize natural light, framing open views of the gardens and lake.
