The newly opened Conrad Athens the Ilisian breathes new life into a beloved architectural icon.

Formerly the Hilton Athens, the property debuts as a sprawling mixed-use destination and resort defined by its instantly recognizable, 6,673-square-foot sculpted marble façades. Originally designed by Greek artist Yannis Moralis, the monumental exterior stands as a modernist tribute to classical mythology.

As dusk falls, lighting by designer Eleftheria Deko illuminates the stone, transforming it into a dynamic, glowing installation that anchors the cultural heart of the city.

Infusion of midcentury optimism

Inside, design firm AvroKO revives the optimism of Athens’ midcentury golden era. Interior spaces strike a delicate balance between preserved historical elements and modern-day luxury.

Working alongside art consultant and curator Mare Studio, the design team integrated commissioned artworks and bespoke furnishings by historic Athenian atelier Saridis and acclaimed ceramicist Eleni Vernadaki.

The property features 278 spacious guestrooms and suites, with the majority offering private balconies framing sweeping city views. These accommodations include the city’s largest suite collection, crowned by the upcoming Omega Penthouse, which will feature a private pool and panoramic vistas of the Acropolis and the Aegean Sea.

The culinary scene at Conrad Athens the Ilisian

The greater Ilisian development unites an expansive program of amenities, including the House of NYNN members club and nine distinct dining concepts.

The culinary landscape is anchored by Byzantino Grande Brasserie and the return of the iconic rooftop destination has been reintroduced as the Galaxy Dispensary. In addition, Yabu Pushelberg brings its signature aesthetic to Onuki, an elegant Japanese restaurant.

A wellness ecosystem

Meanwhile, a sprawling wellness ecosystem includes an outdoor experience that centers around the Oasis, the largest outdoor pool landscape in Athens, alongside an Italian poolside restaurant. Above, a 7,534-square-foot Green Roof offers an outdoor gym, pickleball court, and a private running track overlooking the skyline.

Indoors, a comprehensive wellness zone provides specialized studios for Pilates, spinning, and Gyrotonic, as well as a heated pool and thermal therapies. The sanctuary is rounded out by the Odei Wellness Residence, which offers treatments steeped in the rituals of ancient Greece.

“Athens is one of those rare cities where history, creativity, and contemporary living exist in conversation with one another,” says Dino Michael, senior vice president and global category head, Hilton Luxury Brands. “For Conrad, that makes it a deeply compelling place to be. Conrad Athens the Ilisian has reawakened a landmark in a way that respects its past while feeling entirely in tune with the city Athens has become.”
