Eat Punjab has introduced Grid Pavilion restaurant in Ahmedabad, India as a modern interpretation of community, craft, and shared meals.
Designed by Compartment S4, the restaurant brand’s fourth outpost leans into warmth and material richness, pairing terrazzo, fluted wood, and deep greens with a spatial layout that celebrates gathering.
At the heart of the space is a bold architectural gesture: a 32-foot-long dining table set beneath a glowing wooden grid. The suspended installation, dotted with delicate button lights, evokes a starry night sky. It also anchors the restaurant’s core idea—that dining, particularly in Punjab, is a communal act defined by sharing and conversation.
Nods to Punjabi culture at Grid Pavilion
Rather than rely on overt cultural motifs, the designers approached Punjab as a feeling. For instance, Phulkari, the state’s iconic embroidery, appears not on the walls but woven subtly into the long dining table through artisan-crafted textile panels where block printing meets stitchwork.
Terrazzo flooring with marble and Jaisalmer inlays run beneath forest green sofas and tan chairs that give the palette an earthy sophistication. The restaurant’s warm atmosphere is further enhanced by fluted wood, piccolo tiles, and hints of brass.
Layout and lighting
A linear sofa zone accommodates large groups, while a more intimate section sits beneath a slightly lowered ceiling, creating a cocooned atmosphere for smaller gatherings. The central communal table remains the dramatic focal point.
Lighting shapes the setting with equal care. Beyond the signature wooden grid—glowing softly like a constellation—a mix of lamps and concealed fixtures creates intimate pockets across the room. Gentle shadows play on the fluted panels, and brass vessels catch the light, enhancing the restaurant’s warm, inviting glow.
