Entertainment venue Chasing Rabbits has debuted within the Solaris Plaza in Vail, Colorado. Designed by Rockwell Group, the 13,000-square-foot concept comprises four spaces—the Restaurant, the Library, Rabbit Hole, and Moon Rabbit—that form a clubhouse that encourages discovery. “The interior has been conceived as a maze-like series of distinct experiences that unfold as you move throughout, where you are ‘chasing’ the rabbit to another world,” says Rockwell Group partner Shawn Sullivan. “Each space has its own look and feel, so there are different stories we are telling, and in turn, asking guests to choose their own ending.”
Detailed with subtle references to the local landscape, the Mediterranean restaurant within Chasing Rabbits is anchored by a sculptural glass fireplace composed of a riveted marble hood suspended from the ceiling. The light and airy environment is also lined with chevron wood floors, alabaster wall sconces, and antique mirrored ceiling panels, while arched walnut portals delineate the bar and lounge area from the main dining room. Linked to the Restaurant is the intimate library, which is punctuated by halo lighting interwoven throughout the lounge.
East meets West down the hall at the Moon Rabbit speakeasy. Accessed through a secret panelized door, guests are led down a hallway of reflective red marquee lighting to a hidden space outfitted in richly textured velvet. Handwoven rope screens line the walls to juxtapose floral wallcoverings that adorn the ceiling coffers. Another mirrored corridor connects to Rabbit Hole, a game lounge, club, and screening room where 1980s nostalgia reigns.
“We wanted to create an unexpected, modern collection of spaces that veer away from the rustic look and feel of many mountain and ski towns,” Sullivan adds. “Together, they bring a sense of theatricality and reference the playful side of Vail.”
