The historic Hotel Du Pont in Wilmington, Delaware has reopened its signature restaurant, the Green Room, following renovations at the hand of Philadelphia-based Stokes Architecture + Design. Renamed Le Cavalier at the Green Room, the refreshed F&B space maintains its Old World splendor while also introducing notes of modernity.
In order to find the perfect balance between old and new, design director Lance Saunders collaborated with a local historical consultant. Original details, including a hand-clipped Italian marble mosaic tile floor, were unearthed during the renovation. Custom oak-framed stained-glass window screens now accent the theatrical windows in place of heavy drapery, while faux candlesticks in chandeliers are replaced with opal glass globes reminiscent of the Victorian Era. A new 13-seat custom bar with a warmly illuminated bottle display and custom clock also adorns Le Cavalier, while banquettes composed of stained wood, marble, leather, velvet, and bentwood are installed against new textured wallpaper.
