Asheville Proper executive chef Owen McGlynn has unveiled his second restaurant in the North Carolina city. Casual eatery and cocktail bar Little D’s infuses a sophisticated sensibility across an interior design by McGlynn’s wife and restaurant co-owner Mindi McGlynn.
“The main source of inspiration for the Little D’s design is our daughter,” Mindi McGlynn says. “I wanted the interior to feel somewhat feminine, but still cozy and inviting. Our hope was for guests to walk in and feel a sense of calmness, while also ensuring the space didn’t feel overly dark or closed in. The interior definitely speaks to the eclectic neighborhood as the space plays off of the surrounding architecture and vibe of North Asheville.”
Dark floral wallpaper injects femininity into Little D’s, offset by mint green velvet seating and rich tobacco-toned banquettes and barstools. A “mountain ash” hue elevates the bar’s wooden shelving along with the speckle granite countertops. “I wanted to lighten up the space and give the beautiful lighting a surface to reflect off of,” McGlynn adds. Wainscoting is cast in a custom blue shade to complement the wallpaper, and forms a refined backdrop for gold accents found throughout the cozy 2,000-square-foot venue.
