Brooklyn, New York-based design studio CRÈME has partnered once again with Michelin-starred chef Laurent Tourondel to craft his new American fare concept, LT Bar & Grill, in Hackensack, New Jersey. The restaurant opening marks the third and final phase of redevelopment at the Shops at Riverside.
The space’s design reinterprets traditional steakhouse aesthetics with a Japanese sensibility that emphasizes woodworking and thoughtful detailing—showcased in custom integrated light fixtures and distinctive vertical columns. A palette of organic materials is offset by luxe metallic finishes that infuse a sense of vibrancy and casual elegance.
“We are honored to have had the opportunity to work again with chef Tourondel and embrace the occasion to take a stylistically airy approach to a traditionally conservative environment,” says Jun Aizaki, founder and principal of CRÈME. “The chef always brings a global perspective to his work. We wanted to reflect that and create a space that projects the same openness and warmth by using a diverse blend of materials and architectural details.”
LT Bar & Grill is detailed with Mediterranean-inspired materials including copper, wood, and ceramics to reinforce nature. Multimedia artwork is also installed throughout the multi-level interior, while vertically stacked antique mirrors establish a captivating infinity effect. A custom copper-accented wallcovering gleams alongside white oak paneling, highlighting LT’s vibrant and organic materiality. Tufted banquettes are arranged around a preserved tree that reimagines the dining room as a courtyard, drawing the eye upward as well.
