A singular destination for both dining and lodging in Napa Valley, North Block has opened in Yountville, California. An air of casual indulgence permeates the property, including its onsite eatery, which is reminiscent of a warm neighborhood dive. The eponymous restaurant is crafted by Napa-based designer Erin Martin with a dark, masculine aesthetic softened by the reinforcement of nature.
“Our goal was to lighten up the space with new textures, lighter tones, and a pop of color,” Martin says, “bringing the energy of North Block hotel and its courtyard feel inside with a playful touch.”
Earthy hues and light materials balance out leather-wrapped fixtures and warm wood tones as they compose a cohesive, laidback ethos. Clad with white subway tiling, an inviting bar and open kitchen anchor the interior, while a handpainted avian mural by Berlin artist Michael Dute serves as a key focal point in the 10-seat private dining room.
In addition to a range of flora—including everything from ferns to cacti—oversized porcelain magnolias made by artist Owen Mann were installed to contrast the moody black walls of the dining room. The restaurant also features an expansive outdoor patio strung with romantic lighting.
