Chef and restaurateur Philip Guardione, whose Piccola Cucina restaurants have ushered authentic Sicilian cuisine stateside, has unveiled his latest venture: Piccola Cucina Casa in the Boerum Hill section of Brooklyn, New York.
Nestled on a brownstone-lined block, the concept is Guardione’s first foray beyond traditional dining. Casa’s ground floor hosts a restaurant, while recently renovated guesthouse suites are housed upstairs.
The restaurant at Piccola Cucina Casa
A 1,600-square-feet dining room holds 46 seats, a cocktail bar, and a seated pasta counter, where guests can watch the chefs at work. The front doors give way to a small outdoor seating area along a tree-lined street.
Inside, exposed wooden beams, brick walls, and Italian tiles evoke the rustic warmth of Sicily. The space is also characterized by handmade ceramic teacup lights, upcycled items, and homey décor lining open shelving.
An upstairs guesthouse
Above the restaurant, Piccola Cucina Casa’s two apartments feature a private patio, skylights, and ample windows that allow abundant natural light to stream onto the wood beam ceilings and brick walls within.
The Brooklyn outpost joins the group’s three Manhattan locations, along with restaurants in Red Lodge, Montana and Illes Balears, Spain. A Miami opening is also slated for later this year.
