A new culinary concept, STOCK T.C., has opened within the transformed Postal Station K in Toronto’s Montgomery Square. Locally based firm Giannone Petricone Associates spearheaded the design, which accentuates the original character of the post office with modern lines and midcentury-style details.
Spread across three floors, the food emporium features a fully stocked kitchen and pantry on the ground floor—where a decidedly natural architectural aesthetic complements a retail lineup of raw ingredients. Large butcher and bakery counters are featured beneath a monumental overarching proscenium composed of furled felt, and a range of chic modern seating options are available against warm wood backdrops.
On the second floor, the bar and bistro evokes a relaxed sensibility with a calibrated lighting and a geometric, noise-cancelling ceiling treatment. Deckle-edged flooring spans the dining room area in homage to the perforated fringes of a postage stamp. Furthermore, an island bar hosts visitors throughout the day, while the glass-wrapped garden room accommodates near 100 diners on the third floor.
