Rhumbar has reopened at the Mirage in Las Vegas following a makeover by San Diego-based design firm BASILE Studio. Inspired by “old Las Vegas,” the lounge’s redesign boasts a refreshing midcentury aesthetic that radiates a convivial vibe all day long. “We wanted to design a space where Sammy Davis Jr. would want to go sing and be seen,” says BASILE Studio principal Paul Basile. “It’s a place of familiar nostalgia with a modern touch.”
An electrifying palette of pink, ochre, and brass welcomes guests along with a custom host stand comprising hot rolled steel powdercoated in a dusty rose shade. Anchoring the interior, a linear 40-foot-long polished brass bar features pink fluted tiles, custom fabricated barstools, and a gold mirror fixed upon the backbar. Breezeblock walls are flanked by pink upholstered velvet channels and floor-to-ceiling curtains that ensconce the venue in a sense of warmth. Teak booth systems are appointed with handmade beechwood lamps set upon Corian acrylic tabletops that recall a bygone era of glamour.
The party peaks outside on the terrace, where eight custom steel umbrellas detailed with upholstered fringe, LED backlighting, and pop-down planters animate the atmosphere. A VIP section is distinguished by powdercoated steel fire tables and interchangeable ottoman-style seating, while custom lounge furniture echoes the retro theme in the form of velvet banquettes and pink bucket seats crafted with brass piping. A pink scalloped bar outfitted with contrasting mint and brass barstools commands one end of the space as well.
