The new Sri Lankan and Indian bar and restaurant Rupee has debuted in Seattle. Locally based firm Heliotrope Architects oversaw the design of the new concept in collaboration with owners Joe Sundberg, Rachel Johnson, and Patrick Thalasinos.
Spread across 700 square feet, Rupee accommodates an intimate 26 seats against a warm but colorful backdrop. A vibrant peacock-green wraps the interior to offset the often gray skies of Seattle, while a natural material palette that includes Oregon walnut further instills warmth. Accented by nine seats, the bar is detailed with polished brass trim and Indian clay tiling beneath slatted pendant lighting.
