The Stagecoach Inn has made its return to Salado, Texas following an update from Austin-based architecture firm Clayton & Little. A fixture of the region for more than 150 years, the structure boasts a new design that celebrates its age and charm with respect to future generations.
“Today’s interpretation of Stagecoach Inn endeavors to balance the old with the new,” says Wendy Smith, director of brand at Clayton & Little. “Our team wanted to be respectful of that past but make it relevant for today’s guests, so every effort was made to honor the role Stagecoach Inn has played in the history of Salado and of Texas.”
The refresh honors the building’s past, looking to historic photographs to better interpret the spirit of the Inn and its heritage. Original flooring and walls remain intact along with the ceiling’s handsewn beams. The overall layout also went unaltered in order to maintain the arrangement of six dining rooms. Locally sourced and historically acute materials such as wood and stone were used in crafting the porches as well.
