The Kingstide has opened its doors on Daniel Island, South Carolina—making it the 4,000-acre island’s first and only waterfront restaurant. The coastal-inspired eatery was crafted by Charleston-based studio Cortney Bishop Design to maximize soothing natural views of the Wando River.
“I wanted the design to evoke an elevated, welcoming coastal energy while celebrating the water views from all angles,” says Cortney Bishop, principal designer and owner of her eponymous practice. “Both factors are celebrated throughout, with a rustic-yet-refined interior setting for guests to find their escape, and an abundance of windows across both stories that allow natural light to continuously flow.”
Spread across two floors, the 76-seat venue embraces its tall ceilings with warm wooden beams that frame the main dining room. A wood-fired hearth anchors the open kitchen, which can be glimpsed intimately from the chef’s counter or raw bar. Columns wrapped in rope inject more maritime references, while artfully draped pendant lights channel a traditional Lowcountry aesthetic. Upstairs, a circular bar serves as the key focal point along with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame waterway vistas. A sleek kitchen window provides a peek into the restaurant’s other kitchen as well.
