A new sushi restaurant, Tsunami, has found a home in a modern glass building in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Previously unoccupied, the space was a blank canvas for locally based design firm Tiek Byday. The restaurant is brought to life with traditional Japanese joinery and water-inspired elements in a nod to its moniker.
The large double-height space houses the main dining room, bar and sushi bar, and two semi-private dining rooms that can also be rented for private events.
Tiek Byday’s design concept for Tsunami calls upon water via a metal water-effect ceiling above the sushi bar and down the hallway, as well as a wallcovering depicting water in the semi-private dining space.
A striking wave-like ceiling installation, made in collaboration with a local artist and metalsmith, draws the eye upward to the soaring ceiling of the main dining room.
Polished concrete floors and additional metallic decor round out the space.
