Luxury hotel company 1 Hotels has launched its first property in Canada in Toronto’s bustling King Street West neighborhood. Designed by New York-based Rockwell Group, 1 Hotel Toronto honors the brand’s mission of sustainability through a eco-conscious materiality and technical details—including property-wide water filtration as well as an onsite organic composter capable of reducing 12,000 pounds of organic waste to under 1,000 pounds of compost each month.
“We have long admired 1 Hotels’ sustainable and eco-friendly ethos, and we are thrilled to have been given the opportunity to design the new 1 Hotel Toronto with a biophilic emphasis,” says David Rockwell, founder and president of Rockwell Group. “Our vision for the hotel invites guests to celebrate Toronto’s ecology through materiality, program, and locally made artwork.”
The light and airy design is characterized by sustainably sourced wood furnishings and abundant greenery. Five F&B options are housed onsite, including casual indoor-outdoor concept 1 Kitchen Toronto and lobby bar Flora, which will be anchored by a cozy fireplace and communal spaces. The 1 Hotel Garden Pavilion also invites guests to dine among the hotel’s organic garden, while Mexican-Mediterranean fusion eatery Casa Madera and rooftop dive Harriet’s Toronto will be unveiled in the coming months.
A bee hotel will also be established onsite to attract native bees and pollinators via uniquely designed habitat crafted with their nesting preferences in mind.
Each of 1 Hotel Toronto’s 112 guestrooms, including 21 suites, overlook iconic skyline views and feature signature amenities like heated floors, in-room greenery, and organic cotton linens.
