OTJ Architects, in collaboration with Dixon Architecture and developer Baton Collective, has introduced Ada Hotel, a new hospitality destination in Ada, Michigan.
A community-driven retreat
Designed to welcome both visitors and locals, Ada Hotel blends space, light, color, and texture to celebrate the region’s topography, indigenous heritage, and historical figures.
The hotel’s open lobby serves as a storytelling space, featuring artifacts, photographs, and site-specific art that highlight the town’s rich history. A second-level lounge, available for community reservations, provides a versatile venue for pop-up social and civic events.
Guestrooms and dining at Ada Hotel
Accommodations range from one-bed king rooms and two-bed queen rooms to family bunk rooms and suites.
Onsite dining includes Rix, a 130-seat restaurant named after town founder Rix Robinson, and the Post Tavern, a 110-seat pub.
A design rooted in heritage
The design pays homage to Ada’s landmarks through a contemporary lens. Warm wood finishes recall the town’s iconic wood-truss covered bridge, visually linking the atrium to the first-floor restaurant. A sculpted ceiling pattern in the atrium reflects the area’s rolling landscape.
The narrative also honors both indigenous and settler histories. Through a collaboration with DeGroot Fine Art, the hotel incorporates artwork that bridges the town’s past and present. Notable elements include a custom wallcovering inspired by traditional basket weaving in the lobby and a curated collection of historical photographs displayed throughout the property.
