Tel Aviv-based Bar Orian Architects has revealed renderings of its design for a luxury resort destination slated for development in Israel’s Judean Desert. Set to open in 2025, the 109-room property from Fattal Hotel Group will be crafted to maximize its setting, offering guests majestic panoramic vistas and a sense of openness.
“The atmosphere we aimed for is one that allows the guests to feel at one with the stillness of the surrounding landscape, while enjoying a soothing sense of community,” says Bar Orian cofounder Gidi Bar Orian. “Our design avoids standing out in its surroundings. Rather, it tends to blend in the landscape with its low and longitudinal facades, characterized by its fair-faced concrete walls that are tinted to match the soil around it. Its hospitality is much like the shaded wadis of the desert.”
More than just a refuge from the desert, the resort will serve as a lively oasis reminiscent of a caravanserai, an inn where desert travelers found respite as well as community. Open interiors bathe spaces in natural light and invigorate them with natural, clean airflow. The materiality will enable the property to serve as an extension of the landscape, comprising exposed concrete, washable plaster, and widespread earth tones.
A courtyard will function as the resort’s nucleus, where dining and socializing take place against a backdrop of gardens that will grow produce for onsite restaurants. A bridge to the second floor of the resort will provide guests the opportunity to experience the design on dual axes, including on an upper floor where glass walls frame the desert landscape and Judean Mountains. The upper floors will also descend toward a sheltered, enclosed courtyard linked to guestrooms and suites.
The majority of accommodations will be spread across the first floor, or “the garden floor.” Ranging from 430 to 1,600 square feet, most units will be equipped with balconies and private pools. Plus, an outdoor infinity pool on the lower level will be accessible to all guests.
