The Canopy by Hilton Minneapolis Mill District has opened within local landmark the Advance Thresher/Emerson-Newton Building. From local firm DLR Group, the concept repurposes seven floors and 135,000 square feet of offices into stylish hotel spaces while also preserving original structural elements.
The interiors draw inspiration from Scandinavian residential design with quilting and weaving abstractions evident in the onsite artwork as well as the internal fixtures and furnishings. Subtle touchpoints like pencil illustrations of brick—each penned by different artists—recall the building’s historic terracotta façade, while the atrium art installation by Trellage-Ferrill Studio evokes imagery of flour falling through a sifter.
In guestrooms, wall-mounted antique weaving, flour sifters, and other wooden tools are on display. Blueprint illustrations of thresher engines and farm equipment also recall the agrarian roots of the site.
