Marc & Rose Hospitality is in the midst of transforming the 70-room Inn at Laguna Beach—perched on the cliffs of Laguna Beach, California—into Casa Loma Beach Hotel.
Envisioned by architecture and design firm Electric Bowery, the reimagined property will celebrate the region’s creative heritage and counter-culture history, while leaning into the organic tones and textures of its beachside landscape.
The hotel’s architectural elements and materiality are influenced by a fictional muse, Cecilia, who is a wellness maven with a mythic spirit of the sea. Sandy neutrals, clay tones, and seaside greens set the backdrop for organic and sculpted forms that recall the shape of the sea’s gentle waves.
The design narrative is brought together with a subtle bohemian flair that nods to Laguna Beach’s long legacy of artisans and makers.
In the lobby bar and lounge, fired clay tiles create a curved check-in desk and scraped sandy-colored plaster wraps built-in banquettes. A sculpted mural, created in collaboration with LAND, tells the story of Cecilia.
The influence of the area’s surfboard shapers is also evident through the hotel. In guestrooms, for instance, custom beds, built-in desks, sofas, and casegoods take on sinuous forms.
Casa Loma Beach Hotel is remaining open throughout the renovation, and the first set of revamped guestrooms are slated to debut later this year.
