Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has unveiled the Forum Hotel at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business in Charlottesville. Spread across five stories, the new-build boutique hotel was crafted to reflect the vibrant and purpose-driven ethos of the Darden community, complete with Jeffersonian architecture and a five-acre arboretum and botanical gardens.
“With a foundation deeply rooted in history, community, and distinct local architectural language, the Forum Hotel is a modern interpretation of traditional design philosophy,” says Kimpton’s senior design director Diana Martinez. “A connection to UVA’s longstanding traditions and forward-thinking spirit are reimagined through timeless, bespoke furnishings. A space that is authentic through craftsmanship, refined details, rich materiality with subtle contemporary layers.”
Warm textures and deep navy and rust hues—a nod to UVA’s school colors—abound across the Forum Hotels’ contemporary interiors, executed in collaboration with Looney & Associates and Beleco Design. The flora and fauna of the setting is also highlight through motifs that balance old and new. Intricate millwork forms a backdrop for laidback lounge seating, while natural stone, wood elements, and chevron patterns are also featured. Plaid and worn leather punctuate public spaces like the lobby, where a custom installation from local artist and university alum Brielle DuFlon comprises reclaimed materials.
The hotel’s dining lineup comprises the Birch & Bloom steakhouse, the swanky Aspen Bar & Terrace, and lively neighborhood taproom Good Sport. Among 22,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a 6,000-square-foot ballroom equipped to support 425 guests functions as the centerpiece of the offerings. A total of 198 upscale guestrooms and 10 suites round out the property.
