The Moxy Sydney Airport opened its doors yesterday in Mascot, a New South Wales suburb, just 10 minutes from Sydney International Airport. (A pink bus even shuttles hotel guests to and from the airport.)
Part of Marriott International, the 301-key boutique concept is the first Moxy Hotels property to debut in Australia. “We are thrilled to continue to grow our global portfolio and introduce the energetic Moxy brand to Australia with the opening of Moxy Sydney Airport,” says Matthew Boettcher, vice president and global brand leader of Moxy Hotels. “Sydney is a city of iconic attractions and urban excitement, making it the perfect destination for a spirited brand like Moxy.”
Designed by Toronto studio MAED. Collective, Moxy Sydney Airport takes inspiration from Mascot’s industrial and art-deco roots. The hotel’s façade, for instance, is adorned with an eye-catching abstract mural by locally based artist Elliott Routledge.
In the multifunctional lobby, exposed ceilings, wrought iron beams, and natural materials emulate the open, airy feeling of a converted warehouse, recalling the area’s historic factory buildings.
Accommodations are punctuated by bold artwork from Sydney creator Evi O that portray Mascot’s historic market gardens as well as the local fauna.
Moxy Sydney Airport is also home to two F&B outlets: Bar Moxy, a day-to-night social hub, and streetside café Little Baxter.
