The century-old Jarmulowsky Bank Building at the intersection of New York’s Chinatown and Lower East Side neighborhoods has been transformed into Nine Orchard, a new 116-room hotel and culinary destination. The 83,000-square-foot, 14-floor property was revitalized by DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners and features a mix of historic architecture, elevated design, and contemporary artwork that forges an atmosphere of laidback sophistication.
“I know I’m not alone in believing the Lower East Side is one of the most creative and dynamic areas in the city. We hope Nine Orchard can serve as a hub for those nearby, as well as an inspiring home-away-from-home for visitors,” says DLJ managing partner Andy Rifkin. “I’m grateful to all of our friends and neighbors who helped make it happen.”
The downtown Manhattan building’s original clock and 60-foot-tall rooftop tempietto serve as beacons for Nine Orchard, while soaring, vaulted ceilings and expansive arched windows create a breathtaking experience upon arrival.
In addition to a lobby lounge, onsite social and F&B options include the Corner Bar and the forthcoming Amado Grill, which is set to open this fall.
Each of the hotel guestrooms occupy a modest footprint without compromising distinctive craftsmanship. Subdued but refined materials line the chambers, which are equipped with custom fixtures, restored moldings, and large windows that frame vistas of New York. The hotel’s three suites also boast private, brick-paved terraces that further bond the property with the city.
