Wilmington, Delaware’s hospitality landscape will grow this September with the launch of the Quoin, a new luxury boutique hotel housed within the former Security Trust & Safe Deposit Company Building on Market Street. The four-story Romanesque landmark is being revitalized courtesy of the team at Stokes Architecture + Design in partnership with Philadelphia-based real estate management, development, and design firm Method Co.
“The project began with the careful refurbishment of the building’s historic interior, revealing its original structural bones and time-worn elegance allowing us to usher in a new, modern chapter,” says Method Co. creative director Daniel Olsovsky. “We kept the interior architecture simple and straightforward to further convey a sense of honesty and authenticity—the idea that every material, room, and object has its own rich vocabulary. Method Co. is consciously seeking to raise the aesthetic from a faithful restoration to a fanciful reimagining, full of personalized touches that offer clues to the branding behind the interior design.”
The site’s storied, nature-inspired identity will be balanced with a contemporary ethos and a color palette influenced by original Victoria-era paints and hand-drawn psychedelic floral illustrations. The 24-room concept will greet visitors with a lobby anchored by a fireplace café and bar, as well as a 155-seat restaurant equipped with a courtyard and open kitchen on the ground floor.
Cocktail bars will be located on the lower level and rooftop. The former will be distinguished by original brick ceilings and a custom mural by the Reverend Michael Alan, while the indoor-outdoor rooftop bar will double as a chic events space.
