Nestled in the heart of Italy’s historic capital city, the Rome EDITION, conceived by hotelier Ian Schrager and developed by the Statuto Group, has opened its doors.
The new hotel, part of the Marriott International portfolio, is situated in a former Italian bank building created by late engineer Cesare Pascoletti in collaboration with famed architect Marcello Piacentini in the 1940s.
With 91 rooms, including 17 suites, the Rome EDITION marries a high-design aesthetic with an enduring sense of history. Every element—from the striking cipollino marble central staircase sourced from Apuane quarries to the meticulously preserved original lamps, statues, and central courtyards—encapsulates a unique blend of modernity and tradition.
The pièce de résistance is the hotel’s verdant courtyard garden, an indoor-outdoor haven adorned with more than 400 plants and a cascade of climbing Jasmine over the façade. Meanwhile, each guestroom offers a masterclass in design, with muted tones complemented by walnut accents and custom furniture.
Located on the ground floor, two unique bars—Punch Room and Jade Bar—set the benchmark for mixology in the city.
Taking inspiration from traditional recipes, Punch Room puts a modern spin on the drink. The dark walnut wood bar, with its Rosso Levanto marble fireplace and custom armchairs upholstered in rosewood and dark brown leather, is a place where guests can unwind under low lights. The perfect spot to recline on the amaranth-colored velvet sofas and explore punch cocktails that examine the influence of the Roman Empire, it is a convivial and relaxed space.
The elevated experience of Jade Bar is an ode to the Roman passion for honoring the finest of nature’s offerings. The intimate jewel box-like space has floor-to-ceiling green antique marble picked out with accents of satin brass and gold. Guests are encouraged to relax on the emerald green velvet banquettes and take in the Jeff Koons-inspired sculptural pieces.
EDITION Hotels also plans to open the Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai; the Jeddah EDITION; the Tokyo EDITION, Ginza; and the Singapore EDITION this year.
