Hyatt’s Thompson Hotels brand has expanded its footprint with the launch of its first property in Georgia. Newly opened at the junction of the city’s Historic District and Eastern Wharf, the Thompson Savannah was crafted by Dallas-based Studio 11 Design with a contemporary joie de vivre reflective of the vibrancy of the setting. “Savannah has a stylistic vernacular that is entirely unique among U.S. cities,” says Studio 11 cofounder Kellie Sirna. “When we developed the design narrative for the property, we drew much of our inspiration from the city’s architectural character, sultry natural landscape, and creative community.”
Housed within a structure designed by architecture firm Smallwood, Thompson Savannah reinforces Southern landscapes across the interior with botanical accents, rich jewel tones, and custom stone tiles. Work by locally based artists infuses a dynamic sense of place with multimedia artwork installed in public spaces as well as guestrooms. Herringbone hardwood floors, soft leather, and layers of distressed textiles further reflect the craftsmanship found in Savannah. A grand staircase serves as a sprawling focal point in the lobby, leading guests to a pooldeck on the second floor lined with daybeds and private cabanas.
The Sunroom, an Art Deco-style poolside lounge, is a key fixture of the onsite F&B lineup, along with Mediterranean-inspired rooftop oasis Bar Julian and signature restaurant Fleeting. Plus, a total of 10,000 square feet of event space rounds out the amenities.
A residential-style comfort characterizes the hotel’s 193 guestrooms—including 21 suites. Modern abstract artwork anchors each accommodation, while the signature suite boasts an elevated collection of original large-format artwork. “Artwork of note includes overscaled original paintings and prints on natural artisan canvas,” Sirna adds. “We worked with hand-deckled watercolor paper, original wall sculptures, and mixed-media works from local artists.”
