HKS Introduces Sensa, a Blueprint for Neuroinclusive Hospitality

The conceptual hotel uses sensory transitions, personalized guestrooms, and immersive wellness spaces to support a variety of guest needs

Developed by Annabelle Asali, Hollis Kerr, and Nicole Hawkins under the leadership of Hilari Jones, HKS’ principal and hospitality studio design leader, Sensa is the firm’s conceptual hotel project guided by what the team refers to as the Mindful Method. The framework organizes the hotel around a spectrum of high- and low-sensory environments connected by transitional spaces that help guests regulate before moving between experiences. Ultimately, Sensa serves as a blueprint that brands and operators can adapt for future hospitality projects, where neuroinclusive design serves as a foundational element. ”It’s a different way of thinking about design,” says Jones, “built on the idea that if you create spaces that offer sensory design solutions for those with atypical brains, you enhance the guest experience for all.”
