In Northern California’s Larkspur, a new Goop boutique brings together French elegance and New York charm with a quintessentially Californian spirit.
The store, designed by Orange County-based viaClover, reflects founder Gwyneth Paltrow’s vision to marry prewar New York apartment style with vintage French café aesthetics.
Inside the Goop store
Located in the Marin Country Mart, a New England-inspired shopping village, the boutique looks akin to “if Fleetwood Mac had an apartment on the Upper East Side,” viaClover cofounder Gresham Taylor describes.
The interior palette is marked by soft browns, neutrals, light plums, and off-whites, complemented by white oak and off-white onyx finishes. Nostalgic wood moldings and rattan shelves evoke classic New York, while subway tiles, travertine counters, and rounded walnut doors lend a French kitchen ambiance.
“We wanted to create a free-spirited energy that’s effortlessly elegant,” Taylor continues. “In the end, for us, this particular project called for simplicity. We wanted the space to be approachable and more importantly, shoppable.”
At the heart of the store is a striking beauty room featuring checker-pattern tiles and a custom onyx sink, which creates an intimate focal point that invites customers in. Skylights and varied ceiling heights add volume and light, enhancing the open flow and linking each section of the space.
“I want visitors to feel surprised and familiar at the same time,” Taylor adds.
