Built in 1926 as a celebrity haven, the historic 294-room Mayfair hotel is another glamorous entrant into Downtown Los Angeles’ diverse offerings thanks to a vivacious and vintage-inspired design from local designer Gulla Jónsdóttir Architecture + Design.

The dramatic Art Deco-inspired lobby features a soaring all-glass and black-iron latticed atrium and an illuminated plaster sculpture that resembles a flower.

“Inspired by the original set of drawings of the Mayfair Hotel from the 1920s, we reinterpreted the classical look of Downtown LA with a modern twist,” Jónsdóttir says, notably in the library bar with artwork from Joey Colombo.
