Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Hilton have both introduced a keyless entry tool that uses a smartphone app.
SPG Keyless officially debuts in 10 hotels in markets including Beijing, Hong Kong, New York, Los Angeles, and Doha, while Hilton’s HHonors mobile room key app will debut at 10 U.S. properties in early 2015, including all U.S. locations of Conrad Hotels and Resorts.
SPG Keyless—powered by the SPG app—enables guests to bypass the front desk, go directly to their room, and unlock the door with a tap of their smartphone. For Hilton, the mobile app will also allow access to various areas of each property that require a room key, such as executive floors, elevators, and the fitness center.
SPG Keyless goes live Wednesday, November 5th at the following hotels: Aloft Beijing, Aloft Cancun, Aloft Cupertino, Aloft Harlem, W Doha, W Hollywood, W Hong Kong, W New York-Downtown, W Singapore, and Element Times Square. Starwood will rapidly roll out SPG Keyless with plans for it to be available on 30,000 doors in 150 hotels around the globe by early 2015 across Aloft, Element, and W brands.
In 2016, Hilton plans to deploy the technology across 11 brands globally, including Doubletree, Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites, and Waldorf Astoria.
