Dear Irving on Broadway Embraces Theatrical Opulence

A new cocktail lounge in New York’s Theater District channels 1930s glamour

Dear Irving on Broadway, the third outpost of Yves Jadot Restaurant Group’s (YJRG) cocktail parlor, has made its debut in Manhattan’s Theater District.

Inspiration for Dear Irving on Broadway

Brought to life by Delphine Mauriot, founder of design firm DMDesign, and Chris Bidmead, founder of consultancy Bar Methods, the space harkens back to “the post-Great Depression 1930s, a time when people leaned on entertainment as a form of escapism,” says YJRG managing partner Yves Jadot.

“Plans for our third location had been in the works prior to the pandemic, and it feels beyond timely to bring this concept to life in the wake of another collective hardship,” he continues.

Drawing influences from Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley and epic dramedy Babylon (which stars Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie), Dear Irving on Broadway blends sleek, polished elements with rich pops of color. Dramatic curtains, velvet upholstery, and playful wallpaper patterns lend a sense of theater to the space, while mirrored surfaces and iridescent ceilings add a touch of opulence.

Guests enter the fifth-floor lounge through a glass elevator. Here, black marble floors and maroon banquettes create an intimate yet grand atmosphere. At the heart of the space lies a lavish rectangular bar, adorned with marble countertops, a hanging bottle shelf, and golden chandelier.

Beyond the bar, a floor-to-ceiling mural by Adeline Jadot titled Cirque du Freak-A-Leek adds whimsy and vibrance, underscoring the venue’s Broadway-inspired grandeur.

Meanwhile, the back hallway hosts a series of classic cocktail vignettes built into a millwork library, paying homage to popular Dear Irving recipes of the last decade.

The outdoor terrace

In contrast, the outdoor pergola bar offers a more subdued ambiance, with cushioned armchairs, large orange sofas, and greenery-filled terrace, providing a “theater view” of the neighborhood.

“Ten years after opening our original Gramercy location and almost six years after our first expansion, we look forward to bringing the Dear Irving experience to even more people, retaining the brand’s signature creativity and exceptional service in a new setting,” Jadot adds.
