The Flats has arrived in Beverly Hills from chef Kyle Schutte. The 60-seat eatery highlights both local and exotic fare and flair in its design from Los Angeles-based Gulla Jónsdóttir Architecture & Design.
The interior juxtaposes the high energy of LA and its gritty urban landscapes with peaceful countryside aesthetics. Industrial metals are used alongside temperate woods, including in the main entrance’s wood and steel door. Steel beams etched with olive branches complement the entryway. Industrial bulbs encased in open geometric sculptures descend from the ceiling via black ropes throughout the dining room.
A mural anchors the center of the restaurant with depictions of olive trees beneath the 6th Street Bridge—an oasis in the city. Two bars, one finished in zinc and the other in live edge oak, are featured as well. Abundant natural light illuminates the design’s softer elements and unique artwork.
