The former home of beloved New York café the Smile has been transformed into Jac’s on Bond by local design studio GACHOT. The NoHo cocktail bar is the latest concept from Authentic Hospitality, the group behind popular venues like Pebble Bar and Ray’s.
At Jac’s on Bond, the property’s original elements—like stone walls and fireplace boxes—were preserved to honor the roots of the landmark 1831 townhouse, while photography of the city’s 1980s and ’90s hip-hop scene conjure a unique energy and an artful sense of nostalgia.
“The intention was to maintain the friendly charm while establishing a fresh take on the space. With a neutral palette, the bar is authentic and warm, as well as dark and glowy,” says GACHOT cofounder Christine Gachot. “The concept aims to be a relaxed conversation house for neighbors, creatives, and thinkers to share a drink, a bite, and a round of pool.”
The front of Jac’s on Bond is populated with barrel chairs and dining chairs paired alongside deep terracotta back-painted glass tabletops, while the pool table draws visitors toward the back of the space where velvet banquettes await. Wood floors also span the interior along with creamy white limewashed walls and wainscotting painted charcoal. Sconces, lamps, and votives create a low-level lighting effect elevated by bronze mirrors, brass detailing, and honed marble as well.
