Junction Bistro, Bar & Bakery has opened in Washington, DC’s buzzy Chevy Chase suburb. Designed by local firm //3877, the new laidback community hub pays homage to the rich history of the neighborhood with a contemporary spin.
“Being in a residential part of town, we really wanted this to feel like a warm, welcoming neighborhood gathering space,” says Mayyasa Roach, interior designer at //3877. “Our team designed this space to feel similar to that of a living room, a comfortable place for people to sit and stay awhile, bonding over great food (and great design, too!).”
Drawing upon Chevy Chase’s legacy as a trolley corridor, the nearly 2,700-square-foot space marries a streetcar-inspired ambiance with European bistro-style aesthetics. Historical art prints of the location line the walls to enhance a bygone 20th-century flair, while industrial elements contrast natural finishes like wood and marble. Wooden floors, shiplap walls, and tabletops accent the earthy green and terracotta palette as well.
In addition to an elegant bar featuring textural ceramic tiling and topped with marble, an open kitchen commands the interior and creates a soft division between the grab-and-go area and the dining room, where a central wooden table conveys the brand’s emphasis on community. Oversized globe pendants suspend above diners on an industrial metal framework and track lighting further emphasizes the trolly car theme. Custom upholstered banquettes line the perimeter, paired with bentwood chairs complete with curves and woven seatbacks that soften the rectilinear geometry of the design and infuse a European flair.
