Phoenix, Arizona’s culinary scene has welcomed Kembara, a new restaurant from chef Angelo Sosa in collaboration with long-time partner and restaurant developer Mark Stone.
Kembara, located at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, takes diners on a flavorful journey inspired by the diverse tastes of Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Tokyo, Penang, and beyond.
Crafted by Los Angeles-based Schoos Design, the modern, eclectic space features a lively color palette that channels the vibrancy of night markets in Asia.
At the entrance, guests are greeted by an illuminated moon gate that leads to a grand bar area. Ceiling and walls are adorned with colorful whooping crane wallpaper that form a patchwork pattern, alongside handpainted murals reminiscent of vintage graffiti typically found in the markets.
The space also exudes a moody atmosphere thanks to ruby red handblown glass wall sconces and suspended neon rope lights.
In the dining room, an open kitchen layout allows guests to catch glimpses of the culinary team at work. Long concrete tables with leather pleated banquettes provide communal seating, while two private dining rooms offer more intimate experiences.
Out in the garden, a tropical oasis is illuminated by dangling rope lights that hang over large sharing tables framed with eclectic bamboo settees.
