The Mandarin Oriental, Milan has unveiled Duomo Private Dining Room, the new addition to its Michelin-starred eatery Seta. Crafted by Milanese design studio Fornasetti with ornate custom furnishings and a firm sense of place, the new luxury addition is named after the “Duomo Sommerso” artwork, which was executed by the firm’s founder Piero Fornasetti in 1951.
The paneled painting depicts Milan’s submerged cathedral among myriad fish in a dreamlike setting. Two corners of the dining room are anchored by cupboards decorated to depict the beauty of early 20th-century soprano, Lina Cavalieri. Each portrait is detailed with lines that compose an imaginary atlas illustrated with fish, algae, and other marine life. Cloud-like motifs adorn the interior wallpaper to in an immersive tranquility as well.
