Nuri—an elevated East meets West steakhouse by restaurateur Wan Kim—is slated to open in Dallas’ Uptown district later this month.
Designed by AvroKO’s San Francisco studio, the 9,500-square-foot restaurant is divided into several unique experiences, including a bar, formal dining room, outdoor dining patio, private dining rooms, and a wine vault. A private members club will also feature its own bar and lounge.
The interiors of Nuri are both lavish, fantastical with geometric forms and volumes inspired by the Art Deco era. Curvaceous shapes and soft fabrics are complemented by distinctly detailed wood, metals, and stones. Traditional Korean celadon ceramics inspire both the colors and textures found throughout the dining room.
For a touch of edginess, the space also conveys a cyberpunk aesthetic in a nod to the popularity of digital gaming in modern Asian culture. Shaped metals and highly reflective light fixtures and architectural finishes pay homage to computer parts, such as digital board patterns and metal heat sinks that distribute energy generated from computing.
“We carefully selected each design element, from the custom stone floors and hand-painted wallpaper from England to the striking polished chrome light fixture repurposed from a milk tank in the bar,” Kim says of the $16 million design and buildout. “We even sourced over 100-year-old china directly from Korea to ensure a dining experience that is as unique and authentic as it is luxurious.”
