Italian eatery Sant Ambroeus has unveiled its latest New York outpost at Brookfield Place in Lower Manhattan. Spread across two floors and a total oof 7,000 square feet, the sumptuous restaurant was designed by Montauk, New York-based Studio Robert McKinley to reflect a contemporary Milanese ethos through a modern lens.
“I am always so inspired by the juxtaposition of opulence and modernity in the designs of Northern Italy,” says Robert McKinley, founder and creative director of his eponymous firm. “We wanted this space to instantly bring guests to Milan, while still celebrating the location in the heart of New York and in this rapidly evolving neighborhood around One World Trade.”
A pair of custom 18-foot-tall glass chandeliers punctuate the arrival experience in the café area, contextualizing the 40-foot-high ceilings. Wall-to-wall carpeting in the dining room mirrors the papaya tones of the moiré wallcoverings—evoking a classic, refreshing flair.
Inspired by trips through Torino or Milan, the space is accented by a botanical motif that establishes a unique dichotomy of layered flowers and plants. Traditional brand signatures, including mahogany panels, are installed along with artwork that infuses character across the dining room, mezzanine, and private dining room.
