Italian restaurant Scarpetta has debuted its latest outpost in Tokyo. Designed by Brooklyn-based studio CRÈME, the elegant and inviting space is layered with organic elements that allude to Japan’s love of nature, while also nodding to the restaurant’s New York roots. “We are so excited to bring a global perspective to Scarpetta, connecting the brand’s New York City DNA with its latest home in Tokyo, and to capture the synergy of two places we also call home,” says CRÈME principal Jun Aizaki.
Beneath 16-foot ceilings, seasonal flowers and greenery enliven Scarpetta Tokyo’s minimal but chic dining room. A large painting featuring earthy tones by Tel Aviv-based artist Yael Caffrey adds a sense of warmth to the main dining room, while decorative flutes and scallops along walls and columns accentuate the vertical nature of the interior.
Dark wood further infuses nature. Cozy booths and elevated barstools are accented by a range of custom architectural lighting, contributing to a convivial ethos reminiscent of Scarpetta’s Manhattan location. A pair of private dining rooms and a fecund outdoor terrace round out the space. “We love that people can feel the atmosphere and vibe of the space before they even step inside” adds CRÈME design director Kohji Kawabata.
