ThinkFoodGroup and chef José Andrés have launched a casual restaurant, Beefsteak, located on the George Washington University campus in Washington, DC.
The beefsteak tomato inspired the restaurant’s name—a tongue-in-cheek play on words, as it serves meat only as an optional topping.
Barcelona-based Garcia Capella Arquitectura and HBC Architects designed the interiors, which blend urban and natural elements, such as spruce-colored flooring, tables, stadium seating, blue-and-white ceramic tiles, hanging vegetable crate light fixtures, and a mural depicting farm fields.
Spanish artists Juan and Alejandro Mingarro of design studio Brosmind created colorful graphics, murals, and patterned walls featuring vegetable characters.
The restaurant focuses on vegetable-centric cuisine made with farm-fresh ingredients. Every menu item is prepared within sight and served in a bowl created by Andrés.
ThinkFoodGroup will debut a second Washington, DC Beefsteak location this summer and has several other sites under development.
