Restaurateur Walter Meyenberg and chef Maycoll Calderón have introduced the flavor of Mexico City to the Los Angeles neighborhood of Silver Lake with the launch of modern eatery Tintorera, the duo’s first U.S. venue. Inspired by Meyenberg and Calderón’s home city, the indoor-outdoor 100-seat restaurant evokes the tropical and urban qualities of Mexico’s capital.
Meyenberg collaborated on the design with Mexican architect Juan Pablo Wolffer. The fecund patio is punctuated with greenery, string lights, and pendant lanterns, while the interior includes décor and furniture sourced from Mexico. Bright blue cement tiles and rustic wood tables and chairs span the eatery, along with custom booths, stools, and lamps.
An L-shaped bar crafted from Mexican marble anchors the space and conveys the energy of a speakeasy reminiscent of Acapulco’s golden era in the 1950s. The space is adorned with palm-printed wallpaper, vintage prints, brass fixtures, and mahogany leather booths and stools to channel an authentic Acapulco flair.
