Whiskers, a new rooftop bar, has opened in Gurugram, India.
Designed by Sync Design Studio, the space strikes a balance between grandeur and adaptability. “Spaces like Whiskers are always a challenge because they need to evolve with the time of day—from a quiet, sophisticated spot during brunch to a lively, casual setting for evening dance parties,” says Sandeep Dang, principal architect of Sync Design Studio.
The Whiskers experience
Upon arrival, guests are greeted by a curvilinear waiting bench that wraps around a sculptural bonsai at the concierge desk, which sets a calm, refined tone.
The L-shaped floor plan is thoughtfully divided by ceiling elements that create distinct zones while maintaining flow. Cane lighting fixtures hang among hay reeds and lush greenery, leading to the sushi and pizza bar, where a live kitchen creates an intimate dining experience. Plus, a tucked-away niche offers a private space for meetings.
The design unfolds organically, revealing new layers at every turn. Deeper into the space, cascading metal chains replace the reeds, guiding the eye toward the island bar, the centerpiece of Whiskers. Here, the dramatic ceiling commands attention, balanced by the inlaid brass details in the dewatered concrete flooring.
Sync Design Studio also incorporated a dedicated Sufi night corner, designed for live ghazal performances. “Space is a canvas where people are the elements,” notes Dang. The seating arrangement—featuring high tables, bar stools, and low lounge seating—ensures flexibility to adapt for different group sizes and atmospheres.
Outdoor spaces
Beyond the interiors, the expansive terraces are a defining feature. These 6.5-foot-wide terraces offer a sweeping 270-degree city view framed by semi-circular canopies draped in greenery and dynamic lighting. Full-length glass partitions slide open on temperate days to merge indoors and out.
